Color Mood: Green

Design

It’s not only that green is my favorite color, and that i’m entirely IN LOVE with green interiors; but it’s also the actual fact that green has a great psychological effect on our moods when it comes to spaces.

Interior spaces with the color green makes us instantly feel safe and relaxed… It is considered the most restful color for the eye and good to be said, it fits every room on your house, office and even restaurants and hotels.

The appliance of green, just like any other color, can be a situation of hit or miss… Obviously is not like white, that can be used in every piece of your room; the excessive utilization can turn out to be oppressive and incommode.

That’s the reason why green is best applied as a detail color, specially in a natural way, like plants that provide deviously different shades of green.

Personally, I am obsessed with eclectic interiors with color combinations of black, white, ochre and green. As in all white walls, black details, ochre furniture and to take the place of green, plants… Lots and loooooots of plants!

CATWOMAN: MIAU Throne (Furniture Design)

Design

A throne is an individual and personal seating piece designed and constructed specifically for kings and other high dignity personalities.

Thrones are used on events of big importance and it’s function is to make the authority be perfectly distinguished from the other people on the room.

Their principal characteristics are the armrest design, the ornamentation, steps and elevated throne, a high backplate and as a complement: the room where is located and the canopy or dossal.

In this project I am proposing a metal throne for Catwoman, made out of black and red steel, drafted silver chrome, black painted treated pine wood, ruby inlays and black leather.

All these materials combined along the design, is pretended to cause a first impression of Catwoman… Her dark, sexy, modern, delicate and feminine style printed all around the throne.

I used her leather belt to create the seating cage; sphinx legs to make the throne legs, a red animal print for the inlays and drafting work; her logo on the armrest; and the backplate was a representation of her mask and her eyes.

It’s not a throne under a canopy, but it has a great base design with 3 steps (0.45 meters total height) constructed in wood and covered in steel plates. On the back, it was a cat paw structure just like if the throne was bundled up on a cat paw… In this case, Catwoman would feel, every time she sits on her throne, very close to her roots and forever welcomed and proud by them.

The MIAU Throne, was named after her all-time phrase and it’s supposed to be located in an abandoned edifice with a cat plague… It has a max. height of 2.10 meters and a max. width of 1.50 meters.

As a complement, I made a simple propose of how her related-other throne could be… Using the same design with other colors was perfect to propose Batman’s throne. They have forever established a love-hate relationship and have always had similar styles, including their costumes.

San Giorgio Boutique Hotel (Mykonos, Greece)

Design

“From the outside it looks like another lovely little whitewashed coastal hotel on Mykonos, an island where they’ve pretty much perfected the form of the lovely little whitewashed coastal hotel — but trust us, San Giorgio is something special” via http://www.tablethoteles.com

This Boutique Hotel has a great origin story: “It all started when one of the owners, Mario Hertel, cruised into town on a fifty-foot party boat. He’d loaded the thing with his friends — DJs, dancers, party promoters — with the sole ambition of having a hedonistic summer on the island, and soon his roving beach parties were the most happening in town, even in a town with a lot of nightly happenings. The famed parties caught the attention of Mykonos’s then-struggling Paradise Club, which enticed Hertel to come on board to revive the place, and within a few years it became one of the most famous dance clubs in Europe, treating party-happy island-hoppers to shows by the likes of Moby, David Guetta, Avicii and a full marquee of other top performers.”

By just a few minutes away from the coast, the hotel is actually and extension to the club and still gets to be a very tranquil and peaceful place to be. It’s amazing what this hotel has come to be now, after it was just a struggling little nightclub and it’s safe to assume that their new hotel is going to continue standing out from the competition for years to come.

The house is rich on Aegean views; the beach is just three minutes away by foot (And you can actually enjoy the other beaches around that are practically deserted); the pool is just as blue as that ocean seen at the background; hammocks, loungers, peace; the restaurant is classified as top-flight with a Mediterranean meals and a bar to match; and God the rooms, last but not least, 32 quality boho contemporary rooms made of pure tranquility and sweet getaways, filled up by sunlight and beachy  breeze.

This would be a great getaway, I personally am imagining myself travelling just like Julia Roberts on Eat, Pray, Love swaying on these hammocks, dipping in the lagoon-like pool and meditating on the loungers, eating fresh, drinking expensive, gazing at the ocean .

“As a guest, you get VIP treatment at Paradise Club, a place where getting in the door at all can otherwise be a challenge; that means skipping the lines, access to the VIP room, free transfers there and back, and priority table-booking privileges. And given that the hotel is owned by the unofficial mayors of the Mykonos nightlife and hospitality scene, they know all the best other restaurants, bars and clubs to send you off to — should Paradise itself be insufficient.”

As a seasonal Boutique Hotel, San Giorgio Hotel is not open through the months of November to April and requires a minimum stay of three nights.

Majorelle Garden (Marrakech, Morocco)

Design

The Majorelle Garden is a botanical garden designed by the expatriate artist Jacques Majorelle in 1924 during the Colonial Period in which Morocco was administered by France.

Majorelle got established on Marrakech’s Medina (French protectorate, back then) and fell crazy in love with lights, colors, smells, sounds, architecture, population, zoco (markets) and kasbah (fortified edifications)… He wanted to take advantage of this precious inspiration to make a place of his own, and so he decided to buy a property in 1922 located right next to the Marrakech palms trees forest, where he, in 1923 started constructing his own chalet.

It was constructed by architect Paul Sinoir, under an Art Deco concept and delicate modern style, inspired on Le Corbusier and The Bahia Palace (Marrakech); consisting of the main house on the first level and his own workshop studio on the lower level.

Majorelle, so very in love with botany, creates and designs his very own botanical garden all around his chalet, consisting of a centered fountain and diverse environments complemented with a great variety of exotic plants and rare species that he brought himself from all around the world on different trips such as cactus, yuccas, lily pads, nympheas, jasmines, bougainvilleas, bamboo and coconut, banana and palm trees; adorned with different fountains, groves, pergolas and ceramic jugs.

In 1937, the artist creates his own shade of blue, the Bleu Majorelle, something like a delicate and intense ultramarine color that was used to paint all the walls of the chalet and then all the garden’s to create his personal living piece of art, opening his doors to the public in 1947.

As result of a car accident in 1962, Majorelle retires back to France never coming back and leaving the Garden in total abandonment.

But later in 1980, Yves St. Laurent and his sentimental partner, Pierre Bergé, found the “Association pour la Sauvegarde et le Rayonnement du Jardin Majorelle” in order to take back the garden to the state it once was… So they repurchased the chalet and restored the whole garden to the old Majorelle spirit, increasing plant species from 135 to 300 or more… They conserved the house level for the private use, and transformed the workshop studio into the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech in which there was exposed his personal collection acquired from diverse trips of Islamic art from Magreb, Middle East, Africa and Asia, such as weapons, jewelry, textiles, pottery, Arabian ceramics and art pieces by Majorelle.

The garden was property of Yves St. Laurent until 2008, when he died… His ashes were scattered in the Garden and the rest of the edifice was taken care by other people.

Nowadays the garden is being taken care of by 20 gardeners and is one of the most important touristic attractions of Marrakech. Serving as shelter to plant species from all five continents highlighting the great collection of cactus and Bougainvillea; and hosting more than 15 species of birds that can only be found in the North African area.

This is for sure, one the most beautiful, unique and exotic gardens I have ever seen. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

The Power of Interior Plants: Facts and Types.

Design

Flowers can bring life to any room or space, either at home, office, restaurant, bar…

“A vase with fresh cuts can do wonders to make even the dullest of room look lively and vibrant” (via Interiordesignideas.com)

This might be one of the most inexpensive detailing object on interiors just by taking in consideration all the good effects they offer to your space, it’s all worth it. Plants are the only detailing object that will always make perfect match with all the styles and tendencies that have ever existed.

Many people try giving color to their designed spaces with canvas art and other colored pieces, but it’s good to remember that all these artifacts are never as vivid as living plants. And now I’m just not talking about cut potted flower bouquets.

They are very versatile. You can always use interior plants and flowers as table centers, auxiliary decor, details, for many many purposes (aesthetic or even health purposes)

They also have the ability to provide people with unique oxygen, absorbs dangerous gases and substances that hold up the dust, save from the city sound. Indoor plants make the essential psycho-emotional comfort and reduces stress, so in the interior of your space they live in an important place. Plants have a number of properties that have a positive crash not only on the image of your house or office, but also on the daily work of the people.

One ridiculously important thing to take in consideration is the exchange of flowers once they start to fade, they can make your house be exposed with bad vibes and bad impression. Just go buy a new bouquet, try different types of flowers with different colors. Or you can better opt for those beautiful potted plants that are so easy to grow and maintain.

“Your job is to only water them, keep them pest free and show them the sunlight every once in a while if you homes are dark. There are also indoor flowering plants which you can look for at the nursery. These too work wonders for you!” (via interiordesignideas.com)

This is a list of some of the most used plants on interiors:
*African Violets: they are very famous for being the balcony and garden flower but they are also great for interiors since it gets easy for them to take advantage of artificial lighting. It’s multiplied by seeds and should be watered two or three times a week without exceeding. It’s a really delicate plant. Never ever water the flower of leaves directly, just apply the water directly to the land.

*Columnea: It’s not sun friendly, since it’s an interior plant.. Looks great hanging. Changes color. This plant shouldn’t be watered with a lot of frequency but your space should be quite damp.

*Azaleas:
Mostly used for it’s great colors and quantity of flowers. Different colors. It’s actually an exterior plant, but given it special cares, can be adapted on any space. (Should be in indirect contact with the sun and watered with great abundance; and if it’s possible with rain water)

*Gardenias: Aromatic. Not sun, cold or water friendly. With maintaining them on interiors with dump land and space is enough.

*Orchids: Sun friendly. Always keep on bright places. Even though it required some contact with the sun, never ever keep it directly. Plant pot should have stones on it and be watered daily and delicately, so it can keep the necessary water to maintain the flowers. There are many many types of orchids.

*Irises: Natural filter. Shadow friendly. Don’t water them that much but maintain the pot damp.

And with this inspirational picture in mind, I am now off to do some preparation work for the coming season.:   Had these beautiful purple & yellow irises growing up. My Mama's name is Iris, also.:

*Crisantemos: Air purifier. Cultivate under the sunlight but don’t keep the flower to direct contact. They don’t like water that much, so keep them away of damp. Should be pruned.

*Chamomile: perennial herb. Has very special treatments but you can plant them directly on the land and then replant them wherever you want. Should be watered regularly when it’s hot.

Best Indoor Plants - Easy Plants to Grow - House Beautiful:
*Roses: Visit a florist or a vivarium and ask what kind of roses are more apt for your clime. Sun friendly. Always take care of the roots, and water them every two weeks. Learn and ready about roses diseases.
Roses are my all time favorite flower. What could be more beautiful. So fragrant and lovely to look upon. I plant roses outside my kitchen window so I can admire them all day when they're in bloom.:

*Afelandra: Water friendly. Grows fast. Half big green leaves and half precious flower.

There are far many more interior plants or adaptive to interiors ones. There are my favorites.
Remember you can also choose to use different types of containers just as hanging ones, floor, table…

Hope this post serves you well.
Enjoy the gallery.
Love, Mary.

How You Can Break Your Own Heart.

Art

How possible is it for a person to break their own heart?
When you know on what kind of situation you are getting yourself into but you just can’t help it… The small instants of hope, the moments of laughter and affection. Somehow they all promise you something real but in the moments that they might fail, you know deep inside that it is not what you are really hoping it to be, that it’s not working out.

I’m talking about love. About loving and not being loved. I’m talking about disgrace.

You’ve been hurt before and you promised yourself you wouldn’t love anyone that wouldn’t love you back; even though you know that things don’t work out that way; that closing your heart like that won’t work out, but right now what matters the most is your safety. You, so very selfish, always and forever protecting your heart above all.

But then again, how possible is it for a person after making a promise like that to be able to break their own heart? It’s stupid.

Getting used to talk to someone and having them being part of your daily routine and becoming important to you is not something you control. You like to believe you are just friends, and you like to tell the people that you are.

I figured out that when you like someone after you’ve had your heart broken, (doesn’t matter how long ago was it) it takes a lot of time for you to accept the fact that you might be in love. So you just keep telling yourself you are good friends, that you get along very well, and then you end up saying you like them, but not that much. It’s unacceptable… In love? Again? Never. Same mistake? Shame on me.

I knew this moment on what horrible situation I was getting myself into… After spending 4 years with my heart closed, single, clean of love and broken hearts; your appearance was just not so adequate. But how amazing is it when you just start doing stuff without even thinking about it; things like caring.

Caring has been by far the greatest reason of my breaking.

It’s amazing how you can stay up late while sleepy just to talk to that person. How you can wait up hours for him to get home and see if he got safe. How his things become a matter of interest for you. Like sitting down and ask him how his day was, his night out, his grades, his game; and how his glories and failures become also yours.

I could’ve stopped from the beginning, actually. I could’ve just not let this get so true. I could’ve not been so nice and just follow my instinct. I could’ve done a lot of things… Like not caring for example, like being an ignorant for my own sake to avoid this thing from happening; but I didn’t, I took that stupid leap of faith, because somehow it all looked better with you and because it all felt so good and right, like having someone be the only reason why I check my cellphone, why am I so sleepless every day, why am I smiling while I’m texting.

You were not the man on my dreams, you were not the ideal guy, not a prince, not nothing; but you for sure felt like home. You felt like wearing pajamas and ponytails. Like having no makeup and being barefoot. You felt like the greatest satisfaction. You are my best conformity, my greatest reason.

This love feels mature, not whimsical. Feels like doing great things with you. Feels like weekdays and movie nights, not weekends and parties. Feels innocent, feels pure. This love is not at his highest level, but how great would it be if it got the chance to reach it?

It’s been so long since someone made me write and here I am, because of you I am. You make me write and I might say that you are the greatest and the worst thing that ever happened to my writing.  My mixed feelings of love and happiness, with sorrow and hopelessness. You make all my senses shake and loose position but you are so innocent, you are so diffident. You are a wallflower and you deserve to be loved. And I could promise you I would treat you like you should.

But it’s all getting out of my hands.
If only you knew.
If only your eyes weren’t so distracted.
If only they saw me.
If only you heart wasn’t pounding for someone else.
Or if only it was for me.
it’s your fault if I love you, it’s my fault if this hurts
How possible is it for a person to break their own heart?
